People have been fishing in the Steinhatchee River a very long time...

A bit of Steinhatchee History

From the Taylor County Historical Society Facebook page:

On this day (April 21) in 1932, the Taylor County News reported that ferry service across the Steinhatchee River between Steinhatchee and Jena had been established. What we now call Steinhatchee was served by the Stephensville and Jena post offices in those days, although there was a Steinhatchee post office farther upriver in Lafayette County. When that post office closed in 1937, the name "Steinhatchee" was transferred to the office on the Taylor County side of the river closer to the coast, where it remains today.

From Steinhatchee Chamber of Commerce:

Know before you go:

  • Golf carts are NOT allowed anywhere inside the festival boundaries. No exceptions! We are a golf cart friendly community but please educate yourself on the Taylor County ordinance concerning golf carts. Handicap scooters are permissible.

  • Follow COVID safety guidelines – We encourage you to wear your face mask at all times, wash your hands frequently, and keep a safe distance from those not in your party. With your help, we can prevent the spread of COVD. Handwashing stations will be located throughout the festival and all vendors will have sanitizer available. The porta potty unit will each have sanitizer, and sanitizer will be located at each entry gate.

  • Bring cash – we have a very limited amount of ATMS in our village. Most of the vendors will take credit cards but you’ll want to have cash for the little things. Please, if possible, bring exact change for entry into the Festival.
